Qualifications
- Have been engaged in genealogical research since the early 1980s and professionally since 1993.
- Specialize in the New York City Area (NY/NJ/CT) and Upstate New York - ranging from Colonial Era immigrants to successive waves of Irish, Germans, Italians, Jews, and Eastern Europeans. New York was the point of entry for a majority of American families and I know New York records.
- Extensive experience in missing heirs and due diligence searches for probate genealogy firms, attorneys, executors, administrators. I know how to solve the tough cases and navigate around New York's restrictive records access laws.
- Extensive background in American and European History via academic studies (BA and MA in History) and professional research experience.
- Member of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society and other professional organizations.
- Prior work in Archives and Records Management, including processing several collections.

- Full research report provided following the completion of research. Periodic updates provided via email or mail during longer research projects.

- Specific records retrieval requests (expedited if necessary) in Albany and Manhattan.
- Examples of some records regularly consulted: federal and state census, NYC and NY State vital records, probate, land, tax, newspaper, cemetery, directories, national locator services, religious (Christian and Jewish), fraternal organizations, immigrant aid societies and social organizations (e.g.. landsmanshaft), ships passenger, naturalization, foreign emigrant lists, other INS files, military, stock ownership, license applications, civil and criminal court, published histories/genealogies and unpublished manuscripts.
Fees
- New York City and Vicinity Rate: $40 per hour, plus expenses.
- Upstate New York Rate: $30 per hour, plus expenses.
- Retainer for first five hours required in larger projects.
- One hour minimum for short 'specific' records requests.
- Expenses include such items as parking, mass transit, tolls, admission fees, photocopies, postage, telecoms charges. Typical expenses will be $25-30 per five hour block of research. Outside the NYC area, expenses will vary, but generally be quite a bit less.
- NYC vital records are $5 for uncertified and $15 for certified copies. NY State vital records are $11 and $15 respectively. Transcripts of records will be provided upon request. Bypass the long wait for NY State vital records. I can obtain state vital records in one to two weeks time.
