Qualifications:

• Over 20 years of experience.
• University degree - BA(Wits).
• Author of A Lairdship Lost - the Mowats of Balquholly, 1309-1736; Registers of the Secession Churches and Parish Registers in the Kirk Session Records of the Church of Scotland.
• Chairman of the Association of Scottish Genealogists and Researchers in Archives.
  
  You would be surprised at how many other records there are, apart from births, marriages and deaths, which will tell you more about your ancestors. If you want to know more about them, have reached a brick wall or are interested in local or general history, I may be able to help.

I undertake research in the following archives:

• The National Archives of Scotland - wills, property records, church records, papers of landowners, court records and many more. (for online catalogue see www.nas.gov.uk)
• The National Library of Scotland - Rare Manuscripts Department - papers of landowners, letters, individual documents, genealogical collections. (for list of manuscript holdings see www.nls.uk)
• New Register House (GROS) - civil registers of births, marriages and deaths, census returns and parish registers of the Church of Scotland

Specialist Services:

• Can transcribe older documents, including testaments (wills), as available on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk; also letters, diaries etc.
• Can trace histories of properties (land) and houses (where possible).
