Qualifications

Ancestral Research UK is an established company run by professional genealogists Sue and Les Bolam, members of the Society of Genealogists, with a passion for family history.

Recently featured in the Guardian newspaper, Ancestral Research UK has successfully researched English ancestry for a great many clients worldwide. Both Sue and Les worked for many years in education; Sue as Director of Administration, and Les as an Assistant Principal and Lecturer in Social Sciences in a Further Education College in the North East of England, but are now based in Cambridge.

Services

Ancestral Research UK undertakes family history research work covering all areas of England collaborating with other researchers where necessary to provide a friendly yet professional research service. We currently offer three different packages according to our client's requirements:

Bronze Package – One Ancestral Line Project – suitable for 19th and 20th century research, completed within a four week period. With this project we aim to get back at least 2 generations from your starting point OR to find out about one particular ancestor. You will receive a unique profile of your family set in the context of the historical events of the period and reflecting the social conditions in which they lived, certificates of birth, marriage and/or death and details of your ancestors from the census returns showing family members, addresses, occupations etc. together with a short report giving details of sources used and suggestions for further research, if appropriate.

Silver Package – One Ancestral Line Project – suitable for 18th, 19th and 20th century research, completed within a twelve week period. With this project we aim to get back up to 4 generations from your starting point. You will receive a unique profile of your family set in the context of the historical events of the period and reflecting the social conditions in which they lived, certificates of birth, marriage and/or death and details of your ancestors from the census returns showing family members, addresses, occupations etc. together with a comprehensive report giving details of sources used and suggestions for further research, if appropriate.

Gold Package – Two Ancestral Line Project – suitable for 18th, 19th and 20th century research, completed within a twenty-four week period. With this project we will research two ancestral lines and aim to get back up to 4 generations from your starting point, ie The paternal OR maternal line of your mother/grandfather AND the paternal OR maternal line of your father/grandfather OR The paternal AND maternal line of EITHER your mother/grandmother OR your father/grandfather.

You will receive a unique profile of your family set in the context of the historical events of the period and reflecting the social conditions in which they lived, certificates of birth, marriage and/or death and details of your ancestors from the census returns showing family members, addresses, occupations etc. together with a comprehensive report giving details of sources used and suggestions for further research, if appropriate.

Fees

Our Bronze package costs £180, our Silver package costs £350 and our Gold package costs £650. All fees are inclusive with no hidden extras.

If we are unable to progress any particular line of your family history because, for example, one of your ancestors was born illegitimate and therefore no father was recorded on the birth certificate, we guarantee to calculate the amount of work not completed, ie £81.25 per ancestor, and refund the remainder of your fees. This is applicable to the Silver and Gold Packages only.

Payment

Payment is required prior to the start of your project and is accepted in the form of all major credit cards through Paypal, personal cheque (UK clients only) or by International Money Order (available from your bank) for the appropriate amount in UK Sterling made payable to Ancestral Research UK.
